Principles of the CMIB
The broad, interdisciplinary scientific research of the faculty associated with the CMIB is a strength of this Center. Regularly attended seminars with the presentation of research encompassing various aspects of the host-pathogen interface expose students and CMIB research personnel to new scientific principles and new ways to present and think about science. Frequent contact at such seminars fosters the establishment of research collaborations between CMIB members. In addition, the presentation of one’s research in front of such a diverse, interdisciplinary audience provides all-important feedback from unique perspectives. Finally, exposure to the research of experts in the field, and the chance to interact on a personal level with such researchers, is invaluable to the career development of students, staff and faculty. Therefore, the CMIB is built upon:
· Broad-based interdisciplinary science · Interactive discussions to promote new ideas for approaches to problems and the exchange of scientific information · The unique approaches used by members of the CMIB labs to study the microbe-host interface · The development of research collaborations · The integration of the basic and clinical sciences and linking basic science discovery to its application to human disease · The training of talented PhD, MD, and MD/PhD scientists in the principles of microbe-host interactions
